Rise of The Wedding Weekend
The rise of wedding weekends marks a notable shift in the way couples celebrate their special day, and McLaren Vale’s Chapel Hill Wine has been well ahead of the trend.
Transforming the traditional wedding into a memorable experience that extends beyond a mere ceremony has become a deciding factor when it comes to choosing where to wed.
Now, more than ever, picturesque venues that offer accommodation on-site or nearby is essential criteria for couples during wedding planning. Allowing guests, and the couple themselves, to relax and enjoy the festivities without the hassle of traveling between multiple locations is a must.
This year marks more than 20 years since the opening of McLaren Vale winery’s Chapel Hill Wine’s luxury venue, The Retreat. Since 2003, the wedding party has had the convenience of staying on-site, allowing them to fully participate in all the festivities without worrying about transportation or logistics.
With the lush backdrop of vineyards, the ocean and uninterrupted vistas spanning across McLaren Vale, The Retreat was purpose-built to host wedding receptions upstairs, seating up to 95 guests or up to 210 for cocktail. Downstairs you’ll find six well-appointed guest suites, while the accessible Bridal suite is tucked away updatirs.
Everything from the night-before accommodation and ceremony to reception and post-event wind-down is at the fingertips of the newly wedded – all under one roof.
Chapel Hill’s Events Coordinator, Hope Bodnar, says weddings today span more than just a day.
“The charming retreat allows couples to have everything they need to “truly escape into the bliss of [their] wedding experience,” she says.
“[It] captures the true charm of McLaren Vale, from rolling hills lined with vineyards, a glimpse of the sparkling coast, rustic stone walls and the simply delicious local fare – on the plate and in your glass.
“Stay the night before and continue the party the following day with a long, lazy brunch or barbecue to escape into your own world of celebration.”
