Sophie + Nic

The Botanic Gardens were the perfect backdrop for this love-filled, intimate summer wedding.

“We were engaged in April 2023 and wanted to get married as soon as possible,” says newlywed Sophie Farminer of her recent wedding to the love of her life, Nic Goldney. Seven months later they tied the knot at an intimate ceremony and reception in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens.

“It was perfect from start to finish,” Sophie recalls. “So much preparation went into planning the event, and we couldn’t have been happier with how it flowed. Our only wish is that we could do it all again. It was the most amazing way to celebrate our wedding with our beloved family and friends in the most stunning location.”

The Day: We were married at Araucaria Avenue, a beautiful spot within the Botanic Gardens and were so lucky with the weather -- we picked the right Friday in November! The light and atmosphere were pure magic and the love was palpable.

My son Alby walked down the aisle with my mum, ahead of my dad and me, it was a very significant moment. Our brothers were our witnesses, and our bridal party [included] our dearest friends. Nic's cousin and uncle were our MCs and they brought so much fun to the reception, incorporating Nic's Italian heritage and their charm into all elements of the celebration.

My beautiful friend Kathryn helped with styling and [created] a magnificent arrangement, which we were married in front of. Jane from Big Sky Flower Farm supplied beautiful local blooms and created the most magnificent bouquets. The flowers were perfect and exactly what I had envisaged.

The Dress: I wore a top and skirt. The top was by Catherine Deane, purchased from The Bride Lab. I changed my mind about the skirt I had purchased a week before the wedding and found an incredible Costarellos skirt online. There was only one size left, so I ordered it and crossed my fingers. It arrived from Spain in time and fit like a glove. In my hair, I decided to incorporate a silk bow from Lelet, New York - I love the look of all three elements together.

The Location: We wanted to get married outside and both love the Botanic Gardens. We were thrilled to be able to host our ceremony in a stunning spot and guests could move straight from the ceremony to drinks on the beautiful lawn outside the marquee before the formal reception commenced.

As soon as we met Emma from Blanco Weddings, we knew it was the perfect venue for us. Emma and her team made everything seamless and stress-free. We really appreciate all her input and the excellent service she provided. It was so wonderful to have her there on the night after months of conversations and planning.

The Food: The food was amazing. Aperol Spritz and canapes on the lawn were the perfect start to our reception. Guests selected their main and we received rave reviews about the pasta entrée -- a crowd favourite. Nat from Sugar Sugar Cupcake and Bake created the most stunning and delicious wedding cake. We were so thrilled with the result! Nat was an absolute pleasure to deal with and we couldn't recommend her more highly.
